Solar school

The network of solar schools is an environmental education program of the Ministry of Education and Religious Affairs which is materialised in association with the Ministry for the Environment and Physical Planning and the National Environmental Organisation GREENPEACE. The program hopes to educate a generation in solar energy, by using the most modern photovoltaic technology and innovative educational instruments. The idea was born in November of 1996, when GREENPEACE donated a photovoltaic system to the small primary school of the community of Goudoura in southern Crete. After the success of this first application, the Ministry for the Environment and Physical Planning accepted the idea of financing a network of fifty solar schools of secondary education in the whole country. The co-ordination of the network was taken over by the Environmental Education Bureau of the Ministry for the Environment and Physical Planning. Our school is the representative of the Secondary Education in Aitoloacarnania in the network. The co-ordinator is the headmaster of the school Mr. Varopoulos.
